MFT WINS 2023 KAOS CUP!

For the fist time since the 2018 Season, we have a first-time champion in KAOS! CJ and his Milford Football Team lineup just squeaked into the post season by beating out Mel Kipers Best Available (ironically, the last first time winner in 2018) by 46 points. He got hot in Weeks 12 and 13 by averaging 201 points/game and then carried that success into the playoffs where he  defeated reigning champion and #1 seeded Stick Rock in a low scoring game and then blew out the #3 seeded Springfield Flanders in a game that was over after the first week. This was a total team effort as no single player scored a ton of points, but everyone from the top to bottom contributed. Josh Allen (49), CMC (39) and Mike Evans (37) were the top scorers over Weeks 16 + 17. And don't think I didn't notice you left the D/ST spot empty. No sense in chancing the Cowboys putting up a -86 points and handing the victory to Springfield. (Please note, that the worst a D/ST can do in a given week is -15. CJ should know because the Chargers D/ST put up -14 in his previous game). I guess the Cowboys Special Teams could have fumbled 36 Punts and kickoffs to give Glenn the victory.

As mentioned in earlier notes, the team that dominates early in the season seldom carries their success to the end. At various stages, Stick Rock, Wrath of Kahn and Springfield Flanders looked like the team to beat. But as injuries and the toll of a 17-game season wore on the players, those teams fortunes changed in a minute.

The key to MFT's success was a core group of top players: Josh Allen (#1 QB), CMC (#1 RB), and Mike Evans (#7 WR). They also had incredible waiver wire luck with the late season addition of David Njoku (27/26/16/17 points during the four week playoffs) when TE Mark Andrews was lost for the season. What was missing was a reliable QB2 and a dependable WR2 and Flex. But with the high floor the trio of Allen/Evans/CMC provided each week, it allowed them to stay in the Wild Card race the entire season.

As for our runner-up Springfield Flanders, this game was over before it started. Late season acquisition Puka Nakua (51 Points) came up big, but that was about it. The QB's (Goff/Purdy) picked the wrong time to remember they weren't the 2nd coming of Tom Brady and Joe Montana. Travis Etienne had a poor Week 16 (6 points) before his big game in week 17 (28), while Alvin Kamara had a 2-week total of 15 points. The 2 WRs were also no-shows as AJ Brown could only muster 23 points total and Stephon Diggs only scored 15. Again, is tough to expect the same players to keep putting up points across a 17-game season. Glenn did his best to counteract that with a timely trade that brought in Nakua (51), McBride (20) and Trevor Lawrence (DNP-INJ), but nothing was going to help in this matchup.

Congratulations CJ! Now on to business.

  • CJ was the big winner this year, Taking home $150 for his round 1 win and an additional $200 for winning the championship. Less the $100 entry fee, I owe him $250.

  • Glenn gets $150 for being the top point scorer in the regular season and another $150 for his round 1 victory.

  • Jim and Rocky get $150 for winning their divisions. Less their $100 entry fees they are owed $50 each.

  • Jared wins $50 for defeating Pete in the Consolation game. Less the $100 entry fee, he owes $50.

  • Dan, Ray, Pete and Craig get nothing and owe their $100 entry fees.

Thanks to everyone this season for creating a competitive league! We'll talk again in the Spring when we roll to the 2024 Fantasy Season. In the mean time, I will be calculating projected keeper scenarios in preparation for the 2024 Draft. For those interested, Draft Day is only 243 Days/3 hours and 6 minutes away.
