WEEK 4 RANKINGS

Designer (4).jpeg

A strange Week 3 is in the books where some team rosters are starting to deliver on preseason expectations (MKBA, Peeping Tomlins, Stick Rock and Ghostbusters) while others failed to break 100 points (Skoal Bandits, MFT and '69 Olds). With so much inconsistency, I am not sure how to determine each team's chances this year, but that is not going to stop me from trying. The way I see it, each team falls into one of three categories:

Contenders: Teams with solid lineups who have managed to avoid major injuries and players producing as expected. There are only three teams that look like sure-fire playoff teams. Mel Kiper's Best Available, Ghostbusters and Stick Rock. All three teams have competitive starting lineups and deep benches.

Lurking: The majority of teams fall into this category. Each team has some elite players, but also have holes in their lineup that need to be addressed. Injuries have piled up and there is no help on the bench to make up for the lost production. Skoal Bandits, Peeping Tomlins, Dark Helmet, Springfield Flanders and '69 Olds make up this group. Each team has some intriguing talent on their rosters but also major holes in their lineups. Players will need to step up from their slow starts and contribute if they hope to make a playoff run.

It's never too early to start planning for the 2025 Draft: Whether due to injuries, poor draft choices or both, these teams risk falling out of contention before Columbus Day. Wrath of Kahn and Milford Football Team have all stumbled in the first month of the season. Each team in this category has had poor production from at least two of their keepers this year. CJ has been hit hard by injuries as CMC and Jordan Love have missed most of the season through the first three weeks and neither of the early draft picks (Sam Laporta nor Jaylen Waddle) have played well. Wrath of Kahn has received brutal returns on early draft picks at QB (Caleb Williams/Kirk Cousins) and wobbly production from WR (Diontae Johnson/George Pickens). Hopefully, late round draft picks Jordan Mason and Jameson Williams along with waiver wire pickups Isaiah Likely and Alec Pierce can continue their early season success.

It is still early and things could change quickly. It looked like most players were rounding into shape this week, so hopefully we'll see better quality play and more consistency going forward. Now on to the rankings...

1. Mel Kipers Best Available (Last Week #1)

MKBA Cruised to an easy victory this week. The QB Tandem of Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels combined for 60 points, while Rasheed Rice (29) and Zach Charbonnet (25) contributed in the blowout victory.

2. Ghostbusters (Last Week #2)

They may have lost, but the scoring is starting to pick up and the top players are heating up. Joe Burrow and JaMarr Chase combined for 63 points on MNF while Amon St Brown (20), and Breece Hall (18) provided consistent scoring. The D-ST/K combo netted zero points dooming their quest for a 3-0 start to the season.

3. Dark Helmet (Last Week # 3)

Saquon Barkley scored 36 points and Chris Olave chipped in another 20. Unfortunately the remaining 8 players in the line up sputtered for a combined 80 points. Dan will need to get some WR/Flex help in an effort to provide more consistent scoring.

4. Stick Rock (Last Week #5)

The 2nd highest scoring team in the league finally broke into the win column this week, although things got a little dicey on Monday Night when James Cook got off to a fast start. The ironic thing is they finally won on what might have been their weakest game of the year. The scoring was led by rookie Malik Nabers (28), Jonathan Taylor (27) and the GB D/ST (23). No other player managed to score over 15 points.

5 (Tie). Peeping Tomlin's (Last Week #8)

The Tomlins won their 2nd in a row over a struggling opponent as Dak Prescott (33) returned to his 2023 self. Kyren Williams (31) scored 3 TDs despite having limited touches and Justin Jefferson chipped in 20.

5 (Tie). Springfield Flanders (Last Week #7)

Flanders managed a big victory over a divisional opponent this week behind vintage performances from (Brock Purdy (31), Aaron Jones (26) and Amari Copper (27). Cooper and Jones are filling in admirably as Glenn waits for the return of AJ Brown, Puca Nakua and Joe Mixon from injury.

7. Skoal Bandits (Last Week # 6)

The Bandits went down meekly this week in a game against cellar-dweller Wrath of Kahn as their starting lineup only managed 94 points. Marvin Harrison led (?!) the team with 17 points. He was the only player that bothered to show up. On the bright side, his bench was awesome. They could have used David Montgomery (22) and Sam Darnold (31) in their starting lineup.

8. '69 Olds (Last Week #4)

Another team that couldn't crack 100, Ray-Ray has some work to do. The QB duo is suppose to carry this team, but Mahomes (20) and Hurts (10) combined for 30 points this week. The 2 RB's combined for under 4 points. The WR and flex guys were only slightly better as those three combined for 44 points. The injuries to Isaiah Pacheco and KW III have limited their options this year and there isn't a ton of talent on the bench to turn to.

9. Wrath of Khan (Last Week #10)

Jimmy broke into the win column this week as he feasted on the easier part of his schedule. Jim shrewdly picked up Deshaun Watson (20) and played him against the team that drafted him. Derrick Henry (31) had a big week as did the Jets D/ST (19). If Jim hopes to dent the win column more often this year, the 2 keepers (Kelce and Hill) need to play up to preseason expectations.
