WEEK 6 RANKINGS

Designer (15).jpeg

For the 2nd week in a row, it looks like the scoring around the league is picking up. Through the first 3 weeks of the season, teams were averaging 136 points/game. There was a slight uptick to 139 in Week 4 and a leap to 149 in Week 5. All that adds up to a Week 5 season-to-date average of 140 points/game. Since Won/Loss records can be deceiving based on luck of the schedule we can use that 140 baseline to see how teams are faring with 40% of the schedule complete.

Teams exceeding the average:

Stick Rock - The won/loss record may not be pretty, but they are in solid position in the points standings averaging a whopping 160 points/game.

Mel Kipers BA - This team has been unstoppable through 5 weeks, not only due to their high point total but also the consistency of their scoring each week. MKBA is averaging 156 points/game.

Peeping Tomlins - Another team that scores consistently (as long as we throw out the week 1 128 pts) with only a 3-2 record to show for it. The WRs are carrying the load for this team as they average 149 points/game.

Teams right around the average

Black Ghostbusters - The luckiest team in the league to date as their up and down start to the season has led to a 4-1 record. They are beginning to heat up after a slow start. Starting with a 111 point disappointment in week 1, they are averaging 145 points/game for the season.

Dark Helmet - The Ghostbusters spent the 2 weeks before the draft analyzing the keepers teams will hold onto, determining which four players should be kept, makes trades to get value for players not being kept and takes part in about 1,000 mock drafts trying to anticipate every teams move. Dark Helmet forgets his ESPN password, drinks a 30 pack of Miller Lite and auto-drafts his team. Ghostbusters are averaging 145 points/game while Dark Helmet is averaging 143. Advantage: Dan.

Skoal Bandits - Throw out the Week 3 turd-fest (94.3 points) and this team has been amazingly consistent scoring 149/142/140/153 in non-turd games. Reclamation QBs Darnold and Mayfield have given the Bandits a solid base for points each week. More scoring is needed from Bijan, Aiyuk and Harrison Jr. to become a weekly threat. Average P/G = 136.27

Teams below the average

Springfield Flanders - Two big weeks (169 and 154) surrounded by 3 duds (94/121/118)  has Flanders on the outside looking in. But they should be ready for a run once Joe Mixon, Puka Nakua, AJ Brown and Nick Chubb return from injury and improve on their 131.59 points average.

Wrath of Kahn - This team is all over the place. There is not a lot of top-tier talent in the lineup, but the team has incredible depth. The problem with that is never knowing which players to insert into the lineup each week. Jim's bench has outscored his starters 3 out of the first 4 weeks of the season and they probably would have again in Week 5 if not for two players on the bye. Solution: Try and package 3 guys for one reliable stud you can depend on each week. Currently averaging 130.64 points/game.

'69 Olds - '69 Olds has only finished above the league average in scoring one week. That's not going to lead to a lot of wins. If Mark Andrews could get going, that would be a huge help. But Ray-Ray still needs some RBs to get his 124.5 points/game average up.

Milford Football Team - And that brings us to the tough luck team of the year. Last year's champion had a rough stretch between Weeks 2 - 4, scoring 113, 97 and 89 points. CMC needs to come back sooner rather than later and the Davante Adams situation needs to work itself out, but there is still a lot of talent on this team that is averaging a ghastly 117.18 points/game.

Now on to out rankings (although that is kind of what I just did):

1 . Mel Kipers Best Available (Last Week #1-Tie)

182 points most weeks would lead to an easy victory, but Week 5 wasn't most weeks. LaMar Jackson (41), Drake London (33) and Brian Thomas 25) led a high scoring attack in a game that went down to the wire. A little Monday Night luck got them a well-deserved "W".

2. Ghostbusters (Last Week #4)

Ghostbusters finally got the type of week they dreamed of while putting together the 2024 team. That it came during the bye week with players like Devonta Smith, Amon Ra St Brown and Sam Laporta sitting out made it a surprise. Jamar Chase (45) and Joe Burrow (44) combined for 90 points with Kyler Murray (28) chipping in a solid effort.

3. Stick Rock (Last Week #3)

Another MNF nail-biter for Stick Rock as they went into the game trailing MKBA by 20.14 points and needing a solid effort from Alvin Kamara. And... he came up short, scoring only 12 points as they fall to 1-4. Garrett Wilson (29), Geno Smith (24) and George Kittle (20) led the highest scoring/lowest win total team this week.

4. Peeping Tomlin's (Last Week #1 Tie)

In a game where the Tomlins went into as heavy favorites, they ran into a buzzsaw. The scoring up and down the lineup was solid, but they came up 48-points short against division rival Ghostbusters. Dak Prescott (20) Justin Fields (19) and Nico Collins (17) led the scoring.

5. Dark Helmet (Last Week # 5)

This year's surprise team continues to roll with an easy Week 6 victory over Springfield Flanders. The much-maligned QB duo of Daniel Jones (26) and Bo Nix (27) paced them to an easy win.

6. Skoal Bandits (Last Week # 6)

The Bandits rolled to their 2nd consecutive victory with a convincing win over '69 Olds. Baker Mayfield (29), Waiver-wire addition Tucker Kraft (26) and old reliable Mike Evans (23) had big weeks.

7. Springfield Flanders (Last Week #7 Tie)

The 2nd tough outing in a row for Flanders saw them go down meekly against Dark Helmet. Trevor Lawrence (26) finally came alive and the Denver D/ST scored 16 Points. I think when the D/ST is the 2nd leading scoring, no additional commentary is needed.

8. Wrath of Khan (Last Week #8)

Just when it looked like Kahn was getting some momentum going, they come through with this poor effot in Week 5. Kirk Cousins got things off to a fast start with 42 points on Thursday Night, but Derrick Henry (16) and Tyreke Hill (12) were less than ordinary in a loss against the Bandits.

Designer (4).jpeg

9. '69 Olds (Last Week #9)

A tough week for Ray-Ray as they only mustered up 119 points. DJ Moore (27) had a great game, but no other player managed to score more than 17 points. It's getting late early for some of these teams that are struggling to score as they now find themselves -123 points out of a playoff spot.

10. Milford Football Team (Last Week #10)

Milford Wins! Milford Wins! Milford Wins!

MFT finally breaks into the win column with a 144-129 victory over Wrath of Kahn. Jordan Love (20), Kareem Hunt (19) and Minnesota D/ST (18) were the high scorers that led a balanced attack. They'll look to make it two in a row this week against the Ghostbusters.
